Middletown, Connecticut, Estate Planning and Probate Lawyers
Estate planning, probate and estate administration services have been an important part of our law practice for more than 80 years. Our clients include young families who want to name a guardian for their minor children if they should die, families who want to manage and conserve their assets, people who have been asked to serve as executor or administrator for a friend's or family member's estate as well as caregivers who need to establish a conservatorship for an incapable person or a guardianship for a minor.
Wills, trusts and estate planning
Our lawyers assist clients in developing estate plans for individuals and families. Our goal is to make your intentions possible while minimizing the federal and state gift and estate (death) tax consequences.
Depending on your financial situation, we may recommend the use of a variety of estate planning devices including a last will and testament, a living trust and gifts. We will review your life insurance policies and IRA accounts and may, if we think it necessary, recommend changes.
Probate administration and management
When someone dies, our lawyers counsel with family members, prepare all the probate administration documents, all state and federal estate and inheritance tax returns, and all state and federal estate income tax returns. As part of our services, we prepare the estate's final accounting, the plan of distribution of property to heirs, and oversee and manage the actual distribution. Our lawyers also assist clients with the discovery of assets belonging to the deceased.
Will contests
Our lawyers represent heirs and others who challenge or support the admission of a will and/or appointment of a fiduciary in the probate courts and the Connecticut Superior Court.
